#18: THE WISDOM OF GOD, part two
(from the teaching of Jesus)
Note: Today’s devotion contains a couple of “Wisdom speeches”, such as those found in the book of Proverbs (Proverbs 1:20-33, 8:1-36, 9:1-18). They describe how the Spirit of Wisdom wants to be our Guide and constant companion.
Wisdom has built her house. She calls to everyone:
“I have prepared a feast; all is ready!
My message is to the strong and able
and to the poor, crippled, blind, and lame.
Come, receive My wisdom; feast at My table.
I want My house to be full.
Blessed are those who make no excuses,
but come without delay!”
(Matthew 22:2-4, I Corinthians 3:9, II Corinthians 6:1, Proverbs 9:1-6, Luke 14:17-24)
The wise treasure God’s Word in their hearts;
their thoughts and affections stay focused upon it.
(Matthew 6:21, Proverbs 2:1, Psalm 119:11, 14-16, 72, 97, 127)
People of this world benefit from wise planning;
how much more should the children of light benefit
from looking ahead and planning for eternal purposes?
(Luke 16:1-8)
The vision of wise and faithful Christians
is healthy; their whole lives are full of light.
(Luke 11:34-36)
Childish people won’t listen to wise teaching.
Instead, with a self-centered attitude,
they criticize and complain.
(Matthew 11:16-19)
Woe to scorners who laugh at God’s wisdom,
but blessed are those who believe and practice God’s Word.
(Luke 6:25, 8:49-56)
The Spirit of Wisdom calls,
“Come to Jesus, all you who are overworked and overburdened
and He will give you rest.
Take the responsibility that He gives you and learn from Him
and He will reveal the Heavenly Father to you.
He is gentle and humble
and you will find rest for your souls.
For the responsibility He gives you will fit you perfectly.
Because of His grace and help, it will feel light.”
(Matthew 11:27-30)
