#2: Poem about God’s Love, according to Isaiah 58
Introduction: What chapter in the New Testament is commonly referred to as “The Love Chapter?” Right; I Corinthians 13.
What chapter in the Old Testament could be viewed as “A Love Chapter”?
The following devotional answers that question. I seek and hope to follow its teachings.
Note: Today’s devotional is from my new book, Proverbs of Faith, Hope, and Love, which is now released and published on Amazon and Kindle!
Though I seek God diligently with prayer and fasting
and apply myself to know His ways,
but do not have love, I miss what is most important.
Though I enjoy listening to God’s Word and think
I am keeping every Christian duty,
but have a love towards God and others that is grown cold, I am not pleasing God.
Love relieves the afflicted and is kind and generous to those in need.
Love is not contentious. Love does not conduct strife-filled debates.
Love does not fight and quarrel to have its own way.
Love does not mistreat those under its authority
or drive others unmercifully in order to make a profit.
Love does not point an accusing finger to criticize and condemn.
Love sets the oppressed free, shares its bread with the hungry,
welcomes those who are cast out, clothes the naked,
relieves those in misery and takes care of relatives in need.
One with God's love does not seek his own pleasures or follow his own desires
or go his own way, but pursues God’s interests.
Love does not engage in idle, frivolous talk or worthless chatter.
It does not say things which are offensive to God.
Love puts away scornful and hurtful words.
It fasts from all that is not love.
Honor the Lord, walking in love and delighting in Him
and He will cause you to ride upon the high places of the earth
and you will soar with Him like an eagle.
Then the Lord will feed you with a rich and lasting inheritance;
You will receive your full share of the inheritance
promised to God’s children.
Wisdom and revelation will break forth for you
like the morning sunshine,
and your healing will spring forth quickly.
Light will dawn for you and the Lord will heal your wounds.
Darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noonday.
Righteousness will go before you and
you will progress in God’s will for your life.
The glory of the Lord will guard and protect you from behind.
You will call on the Lord, and He will answer you quickly.
The Lord will guide you continually.
Even during times of drought,
you will be refreshed and satisfied.
Your health and strength will be renewed.
God will use you to help others rebuild their lives,
to restore precious things which have been lost,
and to restore important paths in which to walk.
God’s Love will never end.
Where there are Sabbaths, they will pass away;
Where there are fasts, they will cease;
Where there are church programs, they will vanish away.
But God’s love will continue forever.
