#19: THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH
Note: God is called “the God of Truth” (Isaiah 65:16). Jesus is “the Truth” (John 14:6) and Jesus referred to the
Holy Spirit as “the Spirit of Truth” (John 14:17, 15:26, 16:13).
As a light shining in a dark place
and growing brighter like the dawn of day,
God’s Word of Truth progressively enlightens
the understanding of those who receive it.
(II Peter 1:19, Psalm 119:105, 130, Proverbs 4:18)
As sunshine gives life and growth to vegetation,
the light of God’s truth produces life and growth
in those who receive it.
(Ephesians 4:15, Psalm 119:130, John 6:63, 68, Acts 5:20)
One with the life of Christ radiates God’s light;
and the light shines into the darkness and overcomes it.
(John 1:4-5, Matthew 5:14, Philippians 2:15, Ephesians 5:8)
Truth is a great light beaming forth,
causing the proud to fall and the humble to be exalted.
As truth shines forth, hidden things
in people’s hearts are revealed.
(Luke 2:34-35)
How quickly the grass and flowers fade,
but God’s Word of Truth is perfect,
incorruptible, alive, and endures forever.
(I Peter 1:23-25, Isaiah 40:8, Psalm 19:7, Hebrews 4:12)
Those who hunger for God and for His truth
will be filled with good things,
but the self-satisfied will be sent away empty.
(Luke 1:53, Matthew 5:6)
Like a skillful lawyer bringing forth clear, indisputable evidence
that exposes wrong doing,
the Spirit of Truth convicts lost people of their guilt of sin
and need for Christ.
(John 15:26, 16:7-11, 14, 6:44)
Like an archer aiming at his target, the aim of the Word of Truth
is to equip believers for good works.
(II Timothy 3:16-17, 2:15, II Corinthians 6:7)
Healthy food is profitable to nourish the body
and healthy teaching profits the whole person
– spirit, soul, and body.
(III John 2-4, I Timothy 4:6, Titus 1:9, II Timothy 1:13, Psalm 103:5, I Thessalonians 5:23)
